Medical Superelastic Titanium Nickel Alloy Wire - Precision NiTi Solutions for Medical and Industrial Use
Medical superelastic titanium nickel alloy wire is made by Baoji Hanz Metal Material Co., Ltd. Work takes place at the Baoji Titanium Valley Nonferrous Metals Base. In this grade, nickel stays above 50.4%. Titanium accounts for at least 44%. Density comes to 6.5 g/cm³. Two standards apply: ASTM F2063-18 and GB 24627-2009. Finish options are pickled, bright polished, and ground. Diameters run from Φ0.025 to 4 mm.
What Is wire?
People also call nickel-titanium alloy Nitinol. Two behaviors set it apart from other metals. Superelasticity is one. The shape memory effect is the other. Bend the wire and it springs back to the shape it started with. Release the stress and that happens. Heat it to its transformation temperature and the same thing occurs.
Common metal wires do not act like this. Bend stainless steel or copper often enough and it cracks. Sometimes it simply stays bent. Nitinol wire returns to its original geometry. That holds over load cycle after load cycle, and it does so reliably.
Interventional guide wires are one case. So are orthodontic arch wires and micro-springs inside actuators. A wire that springs back to its shape is a must in each of them.

Note: Ni 54.5–57.0 wt% spans the entire spec window given in ASTM F2063-18. The text puts nickel at "above 50.4%". That number is the lowest value a wire needs to count as superelastic.
Material Properties
Superelasticity and shape memory. A wire can bend far and still go back to its original shape. That handles fracture and permanent set, two problems plain metal wires hit when stress keeps landing on them.
Dimensional accuracy. The diameter tolerance holds at ±0.002 mm, which is very tight. Precision assemblies, like guide wires and orthodontic components, keep steady performance at that level.
Fatigue and corrosion resistance. NiTi wire made to medical grade is biocompatible. In biological environments it holds up well, and that includes long-term interventional applications.
Adjustable transformation temperature. The Af temperature of Medical superelastic titanium nickel alloy wire can be specified between -10℃ and +80℃, allowing control over actuation behavior for thermally activated devices.
Downstream processability. Bending, coiling and weaving the wire will not crack it. Spring forming and mesh weaving, along with other fabrication steps, depend on that.
Application Scenarios
Medical applications include:
- Interventional guide wires: the wire navigates vascular pathways without kinking and returns to shape after bending
- Vascular stents: self-expanding NiTi reduces procedural steps compared to balloon-expandable alternatives
- Orthodontic arch wires: delivers consistent, low-magnitude force across extended treatment periods
- Dental root canal files: superelastic NiTi files reduce fracture risk in curved canal anatomy
- Suture thread: used where flexibility and elastic recovery are required
Industrial applications include:
- Woven stents and mesh components
- Eyeglass frames that get bent again and again and still spring back
- Antennas for mobile phones, built into tight spaces
- Sensor elements, thermal actuators, and micro-springs
Supply and Quality of Medical superelastic titanium nickel alloy wire
In-house manufacturing process. Every step happens under our own roof. That covers vacuum melting right through to the last heat treatment. Batch after batch, the chemical composition holds steady, and so does the phase-transformation performance. All of it meets GB 24627-2009 and ASTM F2063-18.
Customization options. You name the diameter, the Af transformation temperature, the surface finish, and the packaging format. Raw wire is available too, and so are formed parts.
Batch-by-batch inspection. Each order is tested for chemical composition, mechanical properties, and DSC phase-transformation temperature. Test reports are available upon request for traceability and documentation purposes.
Medical-grade and industrial-grade supply. Both grades, Medical superelastic titanium nickel alloy wire, are available from the same supplier, with the MOQ starting at 2 kg.
FAQ
Q: Can the Af transformation temperature be customized?
A: Yes. The Af temperature can be adjusted between -10℃ and +80℃ to suit your application - for example, body-temperature activation in medical devices or higher-temperature actuation in industrial components.
Q: What surface finishes are available?
A: The wire is available in pickled, bright polished, and ground surface conditions. Bright polished is commonly specified for medical-grade applications requiring smooth contact surfaces.
Q: What keeps quality the same from one batch to the next?
A: Chemical composition and mechanical properties get tested on every batch. The DSC phase-transformation temperature is checked too. Ask for them, and full test reports ship with your order.
Q: What standards does this wire comply with?
A: GB 24627-2009 and ASTM F2063-18 are the two standards this wire meets. Chemical composition, mechanical performance, and phase-transformation behavior all fall under those standards. Medical-grade material follows them. So does industrial-grade material.
Q: How is the wire packaged?
A: You can order wire in coils or in straight lengths. Packaging blocks moisture and shock, and every box is sealed. Coils are wrapped in moisture-proof paper. That way the surface stays safe in transit.
Q: What is the MOQ and lead time?
A: MOQ is 2 kg (or 200 meters minimum for fine filaments). Standard lead time is 20–30 working days.
